Obituary for Larry Gillingham

Larry Augustus Gillingham was born June 25, 1937 in Clarkes Head, Newfoundland and passed away at Lakeside Homes in Gander, Newfoundland on November 21, 2019 at the age of 82.

Larry is predeceased by his son Jody Gillingham, brother Lewis Gillingham, father Kenneth Gillingham, mother Ella (nee Francis) and wife Norma (nee Pennell).

Larry is lovingly remembered by his son David (Sarah) of Sudbury, Ontario, daughter Barbara (Llewelyn) Fancey of Gander, Newfoundland, son Tony (Karen) of Clarkes Head, Newfoundland and daughter Pamela (David) Bauld of Clarkes Head, Newfoundland; grandchildren Hannah Gillingham, Caleb Fancey, Ethan Bauld, Jacob Gillingham and Kaiden Bauld; sister Eileen Francis, brother Aubrey (Doreen) Gillingham, sister Melvina (Morley) Head, sister Kathleen (Ernest) Warren, brother Irving (Venicia) Gillingham, and brother Elvis Gillingham and a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Larry worked for years as a hunting and fishing guide as well as a boatbuilder. He enjoyed a quiet night alone in the woods in the cabin or in a wigwam as equally as he loved getting together with family and friends playing guitar and singing songs, many of which he wrote himself. Later he would often be seen on his quad, continuing to enjoy the outdoors and soaking up as much sun as he possibly could. He continued to make new friends in his final couple of years in the Gander Bay Retirement Home and Lakeside Homes in Gander where he will also be missed.

The visitation will be held at the Pentecostal Church in Wing’s Point on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, November 23, 2019 and the morning of Sunday, November 24, 2019. The funeral service will also be held at the Wing’s Point Pentecostal Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Robert Parsons officiating and with internment to follow at the Pentecostal cemetery.
