Obituary for Claude Brown

Claude  Brown
Passed away peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander, on Saturday, August 12th, 2017, Claude Brown, age 88. Born June 14, 1929 in Trinity, Bonavista Bay, son of the late Stanley Brown and Martha Brown Gover. He lived with his grandparents Lucy and Sitnah Brown until he was 8 years old when he was adopted by his Aunt Dora and Uncle Phillip and lived there until he married in 1951 to Mildred Cooper of Ireland's Eye.
Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Martha, step-brothers Clarence, Israel, Gordon, Hubert and Andrew; step-sisters Mary, Stella, Beatrice.
Left to mourn with loving memories are his wife Mildred; son Stan (Lorraine) of Hampton, NB; daughter Lily Jones (Thomas) of Gander, NL; grandsons Tony Clouter (Michelle) of Whitby, ON; Andrew Clouter (Sarah Phelps) of Birmingham, England; grand-daughters Jennifer Lanciault (David) of Calgary, AB; and Alison Kramer (Doug) of Sherwood Park, AB; great-grandchildren Savannah and Makayla Clouter, Sutton Clarke, Lauren, Samantha and Benjamin Kramer; step-sisters Olive, Neta and Annie, brother-in-law James Warren and sister-in-law Phyllis Cooper, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
Claude was a very active member of St. Martin's Cathedral, Gander. He thoroughly enjoyed the Cursillo Group and Prayer & Praise team activities within the church.Claude was an avid hockey fan. He was the principal owner/manager of the Junior and Senior Gander Flyers. He loved his Montreal Canadiens and hockey in general. The Senior Team won the Herder Memorial Cup and the Allan Cup during Claude's time of involvement. Claude was inducted into the Newfoundland Hockey Hall of Fame in June, 2004. Claude was a big sponsor of all sports in Gander.
Claude was a loyal committed member of the Liberal Party and in 2014 was awarded the J Aidan Hennebury award for longtime service to the Liberal Party.
Many people will fondly remember Claude's many talents, including cooking, catering and entertaining. Whether it was celebrities, politicians or anyone known to him, Claude served many delicious meals, with each plate looking exactly like the next.
Claude thoroughly enjoyed spending his time at his cabin in Bonavista Bay, where he loved to fish and garden. Whether at the cabin or at home, Claude spent hours playing cards and really loved to win. He was deeply loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Family will be accepting friends at Stacey's Funeral Home on Monday, August 14th from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 15th at 2:00 P.M. from St. Martin's Anglican Cathedral. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Claudes memory may be made to St. Martin's Anglican Cathedral, 132 Airport Blvd. Gander, NL. A1V 2E7.
